In the past several months, I've been alarmed by the polls, and reassured by (many) actual election results.
It was great to see France and the UK reject the right-wing victories the polls had predicted.
In the US primaries, it was great to see far less support for convicted felon Donald Trump than the polls had predicted.
I read some great posts, by Jay Kuo and others, highlighting races where the polls had been way off. That helped keep me from panicking.
I wanted to share this info with others who may also be panicking.
There's a great community of smart, thoughtful people at MetaFilter, and I've shared some of this info there:
- in March 2024, I quoted some Kuo columns about poll results that seemed completely unrealistic and how wrong the Super Tuesday polls had been
- in June 2024, I linked to several Kuo columns about polls being off
After re-sharing those comments in other discussions on MetaFilter, I thought I should put together a website to organize and update the info I've found.
We need reliable information more than ever.
When the polls are wrong - and when polling is broken - it's helpful to know that.
